Art Statement
Exploration and Manifestation
I use art to manifest my emotions concerning personal, social, and political issues that impact my life. I manifest my emotions towards these issues in a spontaneous way, through the exploration and interaction with different mediums. I am drawn to the use of transient materials such as; dirt, paper, plaster and clay slip. These materials assist me in imprinting the work of my hands, the struggle, and the trace of my creative process. I become part of the piece alluding to the idea of art and life as one. The expression of my feelings through the interaction with mediums is my main drive. The interaction refers to both the actual physical interaction with materials or the interaction with a camera in a specific setting.
I think of my art as form of Gesamtkunstwerk (a total work of art) which, I define as the creation of art through informe by reaching sublimation. Informe referring to the process without a process which happens when spontaneity expresses itself and critical thinking burls. Creating a total work of art refers to the creation of something by means of complete intuition; a creation by which I express my feelings without consciously controlling the outcome. Only this can lead to the creation of a total work of art because more than an object there is an expression.
A total work of art is a representation of the truth of the self, where there is no separation between the object and the subject or the self and the other. It is the point where the ego and the superego become one. It is a total expression. It is a total manifestation of thoughts and feelings.
